Shining bright – Lyse Drouaine triumphs in the DS x METIERS D'ART competition to illuminate the DS 3 E-TENSE grille

Welcome to the innovative world of DS Automobiles, where design, luxury, and expertise converge in the CMF (Colours, Materials and Finish) department. These designers from DS DESIGN STUDIO PARIS are committed to finding the most appropriate lines, textures, and shades for every project. With a wide array of creative talents, they are constantly searching for new ways to enhance the excellence of their craft.

Supported by the upholstery and paint workshops, as well as partner suppliers, the CMF team strives for the utmost precision and quality in every task. Collaborating with the finest craftspeople in France, they work together to push the limits of creativity and quality, uncovering new and exclusive processes.

Driven by a relentless passion for innovation, DS Automobiles launched a design competition in partnership with the Studio Métiers Rares, seeking out the best French craftspeople. This challenge aims to deepen the creative and innovative bond between DS Automobiles and established as well as emerging artists, unlocking even greater possibilities for the future. Launched in 2021, this competition, DS-LUMEN is the second in its series and dedicated to light.

The starting point for each participant's creative journey is the iconic grille, a symbol in the automotive world. DS 3 E-TENSE, the 100% electric vehicle, serves as the muse. Craftsmen are given the freedom to express themselves and completely transform the front of the car through their unique interpretation of the grille.

Lyse Drouaine, the founder of LUXDAWN design house, has won the DS x MÉTIERS D'ART award and been granted a budget by DS Automobiles to create a one-of-a-kind grille for the DS 3 E-TENSE called the DS 3 E-TENSE LUMEN. The grille is made up of optical fibers, diffusing fibers, enamelled copper wires and printed adhesive that can adapt to various designs. The grille is backlit and creates a stunning visual effect.

As the founder of LUXDAWN design house, Lyse Drouaine specialises in innovative luminous materials that enhance architectural spaces. Her passion for light and architecture, combined with her weaving expertise, is showcased in her studio located in the Cité Internationale de la tapisserie in Aubusson. Inspired by the emotions evoked by the first light of dawn, she explores the interplay of light and materials in her work.

The unique grille, the DS 3 E-TENSE LUMEN is soon to be showcased in DS STORES as a symbol of artistry and automotive design coming together.
