The brand Opium

But who is behind the brand? Swiss bike manufacturer Revolt Zycling with the bicycle entrepreneur George Merachtsakis who was responsible for the success of Switzerland's most traditional mountain bike brand MTB Cycletech.

What are the features of the Opium electric bike?

OPIUM e-bikes use cutting edge technologies to give you the longest range. With its integrated battery and a capacity of 2.140 Wh, the e-bike offers a range of up to 340 kilometres. A value that is unparalleled in the market. So perfect for long range commutes and tours. But of course, this is reflected not only in the price of the bike, but also in the weight.

So in more detail:
The main battery capacity is 1670 Wh and offers you 280 km per charge. The optional range extender with a capacity of 470 Wh gives you 84 km of range on top. So you have a potential range of 340 km.

OPIUM’s S-pedelec – as the fast e-bikes are known in the trade language – features state-of-the-art technologies and the best components to be equipped for daily commuting. Thanks to powerful motor assistance, riders need less power and hardly break a sweat even on longer tours.

OPIUM places value on the design of their bikes. That’s why they partnered up on the frame design with Torgny Fjeldskaar, who has also worked for BMW, BMC and Cannondale.

The cockpit is secure and designed with attention to detail. They are using the new wireless MCi cockpit from Magura with 4 piston brakes with ABS function for secure braking. Besides it includes daytime running lights, a rearview mirror as well as a Supernova headlight. For the interface OPIUM uses Biketec's FIT system, which is easy to read and offers riding data like routes and speed.

The hub motor is quiet and powerful performing at 950 W nominal power. So the acceleration is great. And energy recuperation generates additional range.

The OPIUM e-bike comes with many safety features such as:
– ABS (Anti-lock braking system) for increased control and security
– Supernova, which is the brightest lighting system on the market with high beam
– Custom signature light for better visibility
– GPS tracker (location function and anti-theft tracking device)
– Keyless immobilizer (anti-theft)

We highly enjoyed testing the new e-bike from Opium, which comes in 12 colours. So there is something for everyone.
One point is deducted for the weight, but this is due to the battery and its long range. But the Opium electric bike is a great option for those looking for a long range.
