Easy riding with VanMoof's new S5 & A5 e-bikes

VanMoof's next-gen e-bikes S5 and A5 for a broader target group

VanMoof revealed yesterday its latest generation e-bikes, the VanMoof S5 & A5. One of the most exciting features of these new e-bikes is their new step-in frame. Both new 5-Series frames offer riders the most easy and accessible e-bikes yet – the S5, a reinterpretation of the signature VanMoof straight frame, has smaller wheels and a high riding position made for controlled cruising, while the brand new lowered angled A5 frame, was designed for wider accessibility and comfort.

“The A5 is our first one-frame-fits-all, opening up e-biking to a wider audience.” – Ties Carlier, Co-founder VanMoof

The key aspects of this new series are accessibility and ease, in the hopes of opening up the use of e-bikes to riders worldwide. The bonus features we find fantastic are the cargo options designed for errands – they can transport the equivalent to a small city car!

The e-bikes also showcase fully re-engineered technology, like an ultra silent powerful Gen 5 motor, long-range battery, and powerful boost which make up the connected ‘power system’ at the heart of the bikes. This system, along with the torque sensor and Gen5 E-shifter,  is made up of intelligent sensors engineered to give riders an ultra smooth riding experience and respond to their own distinct pace and movement. The bikes also include the latest iteration of VanMoof’s famous anti-theft tech, with a revamped in-wheel lock, bigger pin and a new auto retract function, guaranteeing safety for city riders.

We also particularly like the new handlebar interface with LED Halo Rings, which show riders real-time feedback on speed, battery levels and more. According to VanMoof, usability was a key part of the design process, making even first-time e-bike users feel confident about riding the bike.

“Riding an e-bike should be ultra easy. Thanks to the Halo ring interface our Gen 5 is an e-bike even first-timers will enjoy before ever needing to pick up the manual.” – Job Stehmann, Head of Product Design at VanMoof

The bikes also score high points in connectivity, as they offer a new phone mount and USB-C charging port, allowing riders to turn their phone into a dashboard connected to the VanMoof app.

Riding e-bikes should be accessible, easy and intuitive – and this is exactly what VanMoof aims for. The S5 and A5 e-bikes were honoured with the prestigious Red Dot ‘Best of the Best’ design award, and sales worldwide have begun at 2498 €. We can’t wait to test this new series ourselves as we did with the VanMoof Electrified X2
