Avinya – Tata Motors' innovative electric concept car

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility proudly showcases its new vision AVINYA, a concept built on its Pure EV Architecture

Tata Motors unveiled today in Mumbai the AVINYA Concept, a smashing debut for and symbol of the company’s vision for a pure electric vehicle. The car is based on GEN 3 architecture and introduces a new typology of mobility that offers great spaciousness and comfort. The name ‘AVINYA’ is derived from Sanskrit, and stands for ‘Innovation’. Packed with new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, this model’s ultimate purpose is to deliver well-being and tranquillity.

“While making the AVINYA Concept a reality, the central idea was to offer a mobility solution like no other – a state of the art software on wheels that is well designed, sustainable and reduces the planet’s carbon footprint. Green Mobility is at the nucleus of TPEM, and the AVINYA Concept is the perfect reflection of what the company stands for – a creation that will not only accelerate the adoption of EVs but also lead this movement.” – Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Tata Sons & Tata Motors Chairman

The design

The exterior-interior design for the AVINYA Concept was originally inspired by a catamaran, which might be noticeable to our sailor readers – with this new silhouette, this concept is a mix of the best of both worlds. On one hand, it combines the essence of a premium hatch with the luxuries and versatility of an SUV, and on the other the spaciousness and functionality of an Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV).

The front and rear of the car are the highlight of the model, showcasing the brand’s new identity with its futuristic headlights. On the side, the butterfly doors offer an inviting sense of comfort. On the inside of the car, the human centric design becomes evident – the experience was designed to be a sensory journey of its own, from the skydome letting in natural light to the voice activated systems, sustainable materials and our favourite, the aroma diffuser.

The concept behind the AVINYA was to create a tranquil, stress-free environment for its passengers, which is why it is a screen-less car. This takes away any possible distractions and allows for a mindful experience both for mind and soul.

The technology

The AVINYA was designed with the idea of empathetic mobility at its core – it is a machine engineered to be smart, spacious and sustainable, and yet high-tech. The pure EV GEN 3 Architecture offers next generation connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems and enhanced performance and efficiency.

Pioneered in India, this platform offers high structural safety, next-level water-proofing and dust protection making it ready for all types of terrain. The car is also highly efficient, from the next-gen materials, electronic components to the proprietary energy management strategies and algorithms for efficiency management.

Not only is the AVINYA Concept an all-electric car, it also uses light-weight materials and an optimised structure for an EV-only powertrain, which results in good weight management. The battery will support an ultra-fast charge capability, pumping a minimum 500km range in under 30 minutes.

The EV will be introduced to market by 2025, and is a promising next step for Tata Motors.
