At CES 2024 Sony and Honda showcase the latest AFEELA electric car prototype

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2023, the collaborative mobility project between Sony and Honda presented an exciting electric vehicle (EV) prototype named AFEELA. Fast forward to CES 2024, where additional details about this innovative car have been disclosed. Building upon the concept unveiled at CES 2023, this updated version focuses on mass production. With cutting-edge AI capabilities and advanced technological features, the AFEELA sets itself apart in the electric vehicle market. Collaboration with Epic Games has allowed Sony Honda Mobility to incorporate Unreal Engine and create an immersive augmented reality experience for the infotainment and navigation system. The GPS and navigation system brings a video-game-like element, allowing drivers to activate road maps that resemble a gaming experience. Utilising advanced sensors, the AFEELA electric car captures real-time data and presents it as interactive 3D objects, providing drivers with a comprehensive view of their location.

Sony Honda Mobility partners with Microsoft to introduce a groundbreaking artificial intelligence system. This collaboration involves the development of a conversational personal agent by Microsoft using the Azure OpenAI service. With a voice-enabled setup that mimics human speech, drivers can interact with their personal mobility agent as if conversing with a real person. Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with advanced technologies, including spacious infotainment screens, a noise-canceling interior reminiscent of soundproof cinemas, and immersive spatial audio by Sony.

What else we know about the AFEELA electric car. The vehicle showcases impressive features, such as ultra-wideband sensors, high-resolution cameras, and a thematic cabin that provides a unique driving experience. AFEELA's autonomous capabilities allow it to park itself, even when the driver is not present. With attention to detail, the interior of the car boasts a low-contrast colour palette, fine textures, and seats made of aluminum and glass. The AFEELA electric car offers a front and rear electric motor power of 180 kW, along with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery capacity of 91 kWh. While the car is heading towards mass production, Sony Honda Mobility has yet to announce a specific timeline for its release. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new addition to the electric car market.
