The Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric gets enhanced with extended range

Volvo has been a pioneer in revolutionising the automotive industry with their commitment to sustainable, electric-powered vehicles. Continuing their mission towards a cleaner, greener future, Volvo is enhancing their C40 Recharge Pure Electric with an extended range. The C40 Recharge has been the first one in Volvo’s history being designed as a pure electric vehicle only.

Volvo has set itself very ambitious goals – to name a few:
– by 2040 they want to become a climate-neutral company
– by 2040 they want to operate entirely according to the principles of the circular economy
– by 2030 they will produce only fully electric vehicles
– by 2025 they are aiming for 50% of its sales worldwide to be fully electric, hybrids making up the rest
– by 2025 they are aiming for climate-neutral production worldwide

Lately we got the chance to test drive the enhanced Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric, featuring the powerful Twin Motor AWD in the beautiful surroundings of Salzburg and Berchtesgaden. The extended range means that drivers can now enjoy an even greater driving experience on fully electric power.

While it may appear the same on the outside, Volvo has completely revolutionised its drive concept. With further refinements, it now boasts improved efficiency and impressive range capabilities.

The entry-level model of the Volvo C40 Recharge offers improved power and efficiency, with a 175 kW (238 hp) single engine and a 69 kWh high-voltage battery. This combination allows for a travel range of 487 kilometers. Additionally, the fast-charging capability enables a charge time from ten to 80 percent in just around 34 minutes at 150 kW stations. Alternatively, customers can choose the "Extended Range" version, which features an 82 kWh battery and a 185 kW (252 hp) electric motor on the rear axle. This provides a travel range of up to 582 kilometers, with a charge time from ten to 80 percent in about 28 minutes.

Let’s have a look at the all-wheel-drive variant, that we got to test. Of course, this one has also undergone significant upgrades, including new powertrains and increased range. In place of the previous 150 kW (204 hp) electric motors on each axle, the front now boasts a new 110 kW (150 hp) asynchronous electric motor, while the rear features Volvo's own 190 kW (258 hp) permanent magnet electric motor. Together, they generate an impressive 670 Nm of torque.

Not only that, but the Volvo C40 Recharge Twin Motor AWD is equipped with an 82 kWh battery and enhanced battery cooling, resulting in an extended range of 550 kilometres, a considerable improvement from the previous 451 kilometres.

To enhance both style and performance, the vehicle also comes with new 19-inch alloy wheels, adding a touch of sportiness and elegance while reducing air resistance.

The starting price for the C40 with a single motor is 47.500 EUR, while the extended range version begins at 54.450 EUR. The C40 Twin Motor is priced at 61.400 EUR.
